End of Willie Calhoun Saga; Steven Duggar's Impact in Texas

On May 3rd Willie Calhoun requested a trade after being optioned to Round Rock and finally on June 23rd, his request was granted. Calhoun was sent to the San Francisco Giants in return for Steven Duggar and cash considerations.

Willie Calhoun spent five years in Texas, coming in the deal that sent Yu Darvish to the Los Angeles Dodgers and after a number of injury riddled seasons, both Calhoun and the Rangers organization felt it was time for a fresh start for the twenty seven year old outfielder says President of baseball operations Jon Daniels. "We wish Willie the best in his opportunity with San Francisco. It’s a fresh start for him, as well as being close to home.”

During his time in Arlington, Calhoun struggled to build off his strong 2019 season where he hit .269/.323/.524 with 21 home runs and a .848 OPS; and a big reason for that was his inability to stay on the field. He had a .136 average with one home run and two RBI's in 18 games with the Rangers to start the 2022 season, which ultimately led to his departure from the big league club.

With the swap of the two outfielders, Steven Duggar will head to Texas and suit up for the Rangers. The addition on Duggar will have an immediate impact on the Rangers major league roster, as his presence will help fill the role of Eli White who was recently placed on the 60 day IL after having surgery on his right wrist.

Jon Daniels says, "Steven Duggar is a strong all-around baseball player who can add value to the team in a variety of ways...with the injury to Eli [White], we think his skill set fits our roster well." Duggar put together an solid 2021 campaign with the Giants, hitting .257 with 8 home runs, 35 RBI's and a 107 wRC+.

Right handed reliever Spencer Patton was DFA'd to make room for Steven Dugger on the roster. Patton spent the majority of his time in Round Rock AAA in 2022. One more corresponding move will be made once Duggar joins the team.
